HISTORY    Of  Mount Coney Missionary Baptist Church

Mount Coney Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1875, as a result of a split from Old Macedonia Baptist church, located on Old Tuskegee Road. Three churches were found from this division: Oak Grove, Antioch and Mount Coney. The original Mount Coney Baptist Church stood for 37 years before being destroyed by a storm. Consequently, Mount Coney Baptist church was rebuilt in September 1912 by the Robbins Brothers, Bro. George Meadows, Bro. Eddie Pruitt, Bro. Mim Mayes, Bro George Callaway and the Mount Coney Membership.

The task of rebuilding was long and difficult. Materials were shipped from Troy, Alabama by train to Midway, Alabama and taken by mule and oxen wagons to Mt. Coney. All labor was freely donated by the membership until the church was finished. Later, remodeling was done to the church:

Addition of kitchen/fellowship hall, indoor restrooms, running water, wood and coal heating system converted to propane gas, installation of translucent windowpanes, underlying blocks to close in the underside of the building, and the Church Bell, in the belfry, was closed due to deteriorating conditions.
